Valentin de Miguel is a wine passionate and avid wine learner. Born and grown around the Rioja region in Spain, where his friends and family have been for years engaged in the wine business, he has developed a passion for wines around the world. Currently working in the consulting business for a multinational firm and based out of Singapore, he has had a global career which has offered him the invaluable opportunity to learn on the ground about the different tastes and opportunities in the wine world. He holds first and master’s degrees in business as well as in law, and a passion for technology that he applies to his interest for wine. He holds an UK Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET) Level 3 certification and he is WSET Wine Course Educator.

Certified Sake Scholar, Sake Sommelier of the Year 2018, International kikisake-shi(SSI), WSET Sake Level 3, CSS, CWE
Among numerous accolades, Joshua Kalinan recently achieved Certified Sake Scholar. Originally trained and certified in wine, Joshua developed an interest in sake after completing the Certified Wine Educator (CWE) examination in Tokyo and began training as a Certified Sake Sommelier (CSS).
Joshua was awarded the prestigious International Kikisake-Shi certified by the Sake Service Institute (SSI) in Japan and achieved WSET Level 3 in Sake. His passion in sake awarded him a scholarship to study sake & shochu in Tokyo.
In 2018, Joshua was the first Singaporean crowned the title of Sake Sommelier of the Year by the Sake Sommelier Association (SSA), United Kingdom. He earned the coveted qualification of Master Sake Sommelier (MSS) in the same year.
A year later, Joshua was appointed by SSA as a judge at the Sake Sommelier of the Year competition. Global media recognitions followed, CNN spotlighted Joshua and his story in the feature ‘Escape the Ordinary’ filmed in Singapore.
Joshua has curated sake lists for Singapore Airlines. He has been sharing his love and passion for sake by providing training in Singapore for the International Kikisake-shi program and Certified Sake Sommelier program.
